I'm doing two Indie Books Reading Challenges for 2011 - the ABC Indie Fiction Challenge, and the I Heart Indie Books Reading Challenge (more details below). In helping to spread the word about the wonderful selection of Indie books out there, I'm going to be blogging about my progress and reviews.
My eighth review is of the action-packed fantasy, The Crown Conspiracy...
About The Crown Conspiracy
They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly.
There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this epic tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend.
I don't normally read historical fantasy - it's not one of my favourite genres at all, but this book has just proved me wrong!
Thieves, Royce and Hadrian, unwittingly end up in a conspiracy to overthrow the King. Only their skills can prevent the death of Prince Alric and restore the kingdom to order.
This was a magical tale of wizards, historical settings, evil villains, and edge-of-your-seat adventure. There's just enough historical fantasy description to transport you back in time, but not too much to bore the non-fantasy reader.
I was hooked from page one and can't wait to read the rest of the series.
The ABC Indie Fiction Challenge...
In order to join in, you must read 24 novels in 2011 by Indie authors. One of the key rules is that each story must be written by a different author, and the first letter of the authors' surnames must begin with a different letter.
