Sugar & Spice: The ground-breaking debut crime thriller

I'm doing two Indie Books Reading Challenges for 2011 - the ABC Indie Fiction Challenge, and the I Heart Indie Books Reading Challenge (more details below). In helping to spread the word about the wonderful selection of Indie books out there, I'm going to be blogging about my progress and reviews.

My eighteenth review is of Sugar and Spice - a gritty and gripping thriller...

About Sugar and Spice...
When you think the unthinkable, where do you turn?

Sugar & Spice is the groundbreaking debut novel from Saffina Desforges.
Sugar & Spice has taken the e-publishing world by storm, sweeping up the Amazon UK Kindle charts with sales of more than 20,000 copies a month despite having neither an agent nor a publishing house behind it.

50,000 copies sold since January 2011.
Inspired by a news story of a man who begged a Judge to give him a longer sentence, because he knew he would harm another child if released without treatment, Sugar & Spice is meticulously researched, asking the questions society prefers not to have answered.
At once disquieting and challenging, Sugar & Spice is car-crash reading.
It's every parent's worst nightmare: A child fails to return home. As hours turn to days, all they can do is hope. Some children never come back...
Would you trust a convicted sex offender to help you find your daughter's killer? Claire did...
Teaming up with a second-year psychology student and a fourteen year-old truant schoolboy, Sugar & Spice is the story of a mother's fight to bring one man's reign of terror to an end.
Be warned: In Sugar & Spice not all things are nice...

This is a gritty and gripping thriller that will have you on your toes from the beginning. While the subject matter of paedophiles may be uncomfortable for some, it's dealt with very well. The plot is tied together really well and the characters instantly pull you in. I could see that a mother of a child killed by a paedophile trying to understand their actions may be uncomfortable for some, but I think it was true to the character.

Sugar and Spice is a gritty and gripping thriller that is Patricia Cornwell meets Silence of the Lambs. You won't be able to put it down!
