Belfast Girls One Year On: Bestselling Online.

As a very little girl, I loved writing stories. And I had every intention of becoming a writer in the tradition of Charles Dickens or Jane Austen – a bestseller who also had literary status. But I grew up, married, had four children and a full time job, and still hadn’t managed it.

Until, just over a year ago, my first full-len...

RIP Linda Evans

  Image of L. C. Evans

I was so sad and shocked yesterday to hear that the wonderful LC Evans had lost her battle with cancer. As well as being a great author, she also a lovely person and someone I considered a good friend. The literary world will be a lesser place for not having her in it.

Fellow author and good friend of LC, Barbara Silkstone, made this announcement...

"It is with great sorry that I share ~ We lost one of our own last night. Our beloved and lovely lady, Linda Evans succumbed to her battle with ...

It is estimated that 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year - 80% of these are women and girls. (Source: U.S. Department of State, Trafficking in Persons Report: 2007)

As a writer, I wanted to use my voice to raise awareness into sex tra...

Back in the summer, I was involved in the Kindle Summer Book Club anthology with Cheryl Shireman. A novel in one sentence - part two

Posted by sibelhodge on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, In : Books

I always think writing a synopsis or blurb for a book is worse than writing the whole thing! How do you sum up thousands of words in a few paragraphs? But how about making it even harder?

A while ago I started a couple of threads over on Kindleboards and Amazon forums, asking authors to describe their novel in one sentence. Here are a few taste-teasers for you...

The Fashion Police (chicklit mystery) - The fashion business just got deadly!

It's Sample Sunday tomorrow over on Twitter so I'm posting a random sample of my chicklit comedy mystery, The Fashion Police...

Luckily, throbbing body parts didn’t keep me awake that night. Mine or Brad’s – although I was quite sure that Brad would’ve liked the idea. However, he had left shortly after we consumed our dinner. Random thoughts deep in my subconscious kept me awake, instead. There was just something about the disappearance of the fashion collection. Something about it kep...

I'm sure we've all been affected by the horrific scenes of the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Along with some talented fellow authors, I felt the need that I wanted to contribute to an ongoing humanitarian aid and disaster relief fund. But how?

We decided to put together an anthology of short stories from different authors, which will be available on Amazon Kindle and Smashwords for all Ebook formats, and this is how With Love was born. Some authors have donated editing skills, stor...

I think character interviews are fun. A while ago, my feisty insurance investigator, Amber Fox, from The Fashion Police was interviewed on the fab Syria Says... website. This is what she said...

Syria Says: How did you first meet your writer?

Amber:  She was following me. Can you believe it? Stalking me, for some reason. Not that I didn’t know she was there, though. I’m an ex-cop turned insurance investigator - I could see her tail a mile off. It’s my job to know when someone’s foll...

My Perfect Wedding is a romantic comedy-mystery. It's the sequel to Fourteen Days Later, although it can be read as a standalone novel. Here's a snippet...

In my daydreams, this was exactly how I’d pictured an idyllic new life abroad (and I’d had quite a few, believe me).

Sitting on the edge of the terrace, leisurely drinking wine, and watching the colour of the sun turn from lemon to citrus to orangey red with my future husband. For a moment, I could pretend that I didn’t have any wo...

What's my favourite part of writing a novel?

Posted by sibelhodge on Friday, June 4, 2010, In : Books

There's a whole heap of different elements that go in to writing a novel. Ask different authors what they prefer, and you'll get a variety of answers. Some love plotting or working out themes and story arcs. Some prefer writing dialogue, making up different characters, or the general nitty-gritty of writing.

Anyway, it got me thinking, and I started a thread over at the Kindle Boards forum to find out what fellow authors think. I got a really interesting response, and Deb, at Two ...
