What is your life whispering to you?

Posted by sibelhodge on Sunday, October 30, 2011, In : Books

Back in the summer, I was involved in the Kindle Summer Book Club anthology with Cheryl Shireman. Recently, when she asked me to get involved in another anthology of women writers, I jumped at the chance. The idea behind Indie Chicks was fellow women sharing their inspirational stories with you about how they came to be living the life they were meant to live. We all face ups and downs in our lives, or times when we don't know where we're meant to be heading. Also, there are times when we kno...

Today, Larry Enright has the pleasure of interviewing the infamous Tom Ryan, ten year-old hero of the newly released A King in a Court of Fools, and author of the lost journal, the Book of Tom.

As background, A King in a Court of Fools begins with a book — The Book of Tom — a journal writing assignment from Tom Ryan’s sixth-grade teacher, Sister Jeanne Lorette. That’s what she called it anyway. Tom called it punishment. In it, he chronicles the adventures of the Caswell Gang, a grou...

Read An Excerpt From My Perfect Wedding

Posted by sibelhodge on Saturday, February 12, 2011, In : Books

My Perfect Wedding is a romantic comedy-mystery. It's the sequel to Fourteen Days Later, although it can be read as a standalone novel. Here's a snippet...

In my daydreams, this was exactly how I’d pictured an idyllic new life abroad (and I’d had quite a few, believe me).

Sitting on the edge of the terrace, leisurely drinking wine, and watching the colour of the sun turn from lemon to citrus to orangey red with my future husband. For a moment, I could pretend that I didn’t have any wo...

It's Sample Sunday again! Where has the time gone? This week you can read a random excerpt from my comedy mystery novel, The Fashion Police...

I stumbled through the doors of Hi-Tec’s plush Hertford office with my rucksack threatening to slide off my shoulder. I juggled two mochacinos and four chocolate muffins with extra chocolate sprinkles in one hand, and two mozzarella paninis and a bottle of sparkling water in the other hand. It’s Sample Sunday over on Twitter today, so I’m sharing a sample of my brand new romantic comedy-mystery, My Perfect Wedding…

Chapter 1

The customs officer flipped open Kalem’s passport and scrutinized the photo.

I tapped my foot. Come on, come on, don’t you know we’ve got a wedding to get to? My perfect wedding, nonetheless. And on top of that, the duty-free shops were seriously calling my name. We’d already been shuffling along in the security queue for forty-five minu...

‘You are joking, right?’ I arched an eyebrow. ‘Nobody can change their life in fourteen days.’

‘That’s not what it says in here.’ Ayshe held up the magazine she’d been flicking through, her finger underlining one of the articles.‘“Orgasms or Chocolate? What do women really wa...

Fourteen Days Later (Romantic Comedy)

This has made my day! I've just had a lovely new 5 star review of my romantic comedy, Fourteen Days Later, on Amazon...

"I thoroughly enjoyed this well-crafted, witty novel with its the twists and turns, its quirky characters, and the cross-cultural British-Turkish Cypriot references. The characters are convincing and lovable and accident-prone Helen is a riot. Excellent dialogue. Highly recommended."

What's my favourite part of writing a novel?

Posted by sibelhodge on Friday, June 4, 2010, In : Books

There's a whole heap of different elements that go in to writing a novel. Ask different authors what they prefer, and you'll get a variety of answers. Some love plotting or working out themes and story arcs. Some prefer writing dialogue, making up different characters, or the general nitty-gritty of writing.

Anyway, it got me thinking, and I started a thread over at the Kindle Boards forum to find out what fellow authors think. I got a really interesting response, and Deb, at Two ...

E-books outsell physical books this Christmas!

Posted by sibelhodge on Monday, January 4, 2010, In : Books

Online retailer Amazon has reported that customers bought more Kindle e-books than physical books this Christmas. Amazon's e-reader, The Kindle, was also the most gifted item in their history. Waterstone's say that they sell an e-book every ninety seconds. It all sounds like pretty amazing news for the future of e-books.

More and more e-readers are being introduced to the market, giving purchasers greater choice to customize their bookhabits.

It's only a matter of time before the e-book craze...
