It's Author's Coffee Time on my blog today. Grab a hot chocolate and meet J.E. Taylor...

About J.E.

J.E. Taylor is a writer, an editor, a manuscript formatter, a mother, a wife and a business analyst, not necessarily in that order. She first sat down to seriously write in February of 2007 after her daughter asked:  “Mom, if you could do anything, what would you do?”

From that moment on, she hasn’t looked back and now her writing resume includes five+ novels either published or targeted for release along with several short stories on the virtual shelves including a few within upcoming eXcessica anthologies.

Ms. Taylor also moonlights as an Assistant Editor of Allegory, an online venue for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, and lends a hand in formatting manuscripts for eXcessica as well as offering her services judging writing contests for various RWA chapters.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children and during the summer months enjoys her weekends on the shore in southern Maine.

Latte, cappuccino, regular? What’s your coffee time pleasure?

JET: Nada, I don’t drink coffee.  Or tea.  I know, people are always a little floored by this, but I never acquired the taste for coffee or tea.  However, if you give me a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on a cold day – I’m a happy camper.

Yep. I'm with you on the hot chocolate! What flavour cookie would you like with that?

JET: A nice warm chocolate chip cookie.

Double dose of chocolate - fab! What’s your greatest writing achievement to date?

JET: Getting Survival Games published.  Finding a home for this erotic thriller was harder than I imagined, but eXcessica took a chance on me and since then, I’ve learned so much about what goes into publishing and formatting and marketing.

Congrats! Who is your hero and why?

JET:  My hero is my father. He believed I could do anything I wanted to and between his belief and love and support, I ended up taking a chance.  Of course it took thirty some years to step into my own, but he still is supportive and one of my most faithful fans.

I totally agree with him! Which word best defines your writing?

JET:  Intense

What’s the most recent thing that made you laugh?

JET: Watching Transformers 2 with my son and laughing with him at the funny parts.

Which book is on your coffee table right now?

JET: Harry Potter Goblet of Fire,  Witch and Wizard, Dead or Alive and Chicken Soup for the Soul

What was the name of your first pet?

JET: When I was a kid – Mittens.  First pet in my own family - Gizmo

I love Mittens! Who is your favourite character and why?

JET:  My favourite character that I haven’t created is Jack Ryan.  Tom Clancy did a wonderful job creating a character with depth and flaws and charisma and integrity.

Of my creations – my favourite is Ty Aris a.k.a. Chris Ryan because he is complex and walks the fence between bad and good.  He could go either way and that’s what is so fun, trying to keep him on the straight and narrow is a chore.  He keeps wanting to do impulsive things, things that put him (and his family) in danger.

Sounds like an interesting read! What’s your most embarrassing moment?

JET:  Oh good lord – do you mean in life or in the writing realm?
I’m drawing a blank right now – because the only thing I can think of is when I was on a business trip in Chicago walking from the hotel to the office with a group of co-workers and my high heel got caught in a sewer grate.  I didn’t fall on my face, but I torked my knee and ankle so bad that by the time we got to the office, my ankle had swelled up to the size of a small melon.  I still walked on it – all through the day and at the airport and drove home – the next day I went to my orthopaedic and he put me on crutches and told me I couldn’t drive until both he and the physical therapist said so.  I worked from home for six weeks because of that sewer grate and my vanity in having to wear high heels instead of a more “sensible” pair of shoes.

OK, I'm totally off high heels for me after reading that!

You can find out more about J.E. on her website.

Happy Reading!
